Rio Sightseeing

on with the travel story ;)

I guess I was very lucky with the weather in Rio...sunny most of the time with occasional rain showers. However, the heat and humidity was a little bit too much for me and the flies did not help at all. I had a very good time there and my friend Marcella let my stay with her and showed me around town, and just made me feel right at home. I would like to take this opportunity to thank er for all her help and friendship. Thanks Marcella!! :)

Some of the things I did in Rio:

Went to a samba place and danced samba
Ate in a "Kilo" restaurant
Had sushi
Got bitten a lot by mosquitoes
Saw Rolling Stones on Copacabana Beach along with 1.5 million others
Enjoyed the Rio Carnival
Drank a lot of beer
Made some great friends
Heard shots one morning!
Saw a football game at the Maracaná - South Americas biggest football stadium
...it was Botafogo and Flumenese
Ate at a Peruvian restaurant
Ate at a German restaurant
Did a lot of sightseeing (see photos)
Had caipirinha for the first time - dangerous drink (see earlier blog)
Went to a crazy carnival party
Saw the floats before they enter the Sambodrome
Stood in Pele's footprints
and did a lot of other stuff. :)

Below are some snapshots from the Rio trip. Enjoy!

You have to have some food before a full day of
Rio Sightseeing! Sushi is always nice :)

The food tastes even better with this kind of
view of The Sugar Loaf or Pao de Azucar...

and Botofogo beach.

Heading on up - If you look very carefully
you see a glimpse og the Christ the Redeemer
statue in the background.

Marcella and me almost at the (sugar) top.

At the top of Pao de Azucar -
Copacabana beach in the background.

Copacabana beach - if you look very carefully
you can see the Rolling Stones Stage just behind
the big building in the center of the photo.

Bragging about the big fish I caught yesterday ;)
Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado)

and the view was not too bad either :)

Pele's footprints at the Maracaná
(the biggest football stadium in South-America).
I saw a game there and wow...absolutely fantastic!!

"At the Copa,Copacabana".

A nice view of the city

Walking around the very nice Santa Teresa.

The Favellas or the slums of Rio are
right next door to the posh Santa Teresa.

View over the city from Pao de Azucar.
On the right of the picture is the city center,
where you can see if you look very carefully
a giant poster of Ronaldo, which covers a whole building.
